Loud Thud On Roof

Loud thud on roof.

There are loud banging noises coming from our attic roof. What you re hearing however is the effect of low temperatures on the building materials. The thump occurs several times a day usually in the evening. A water leak inside a wall can destroy wallboard and insulation and lead to mold or mildew problems.

First check your basement or crawl space below the spot where you hear the water sound. Or something like those huge booming noises glaciers make when. It is unrelated to plumbing usage or to start and stop of hot water heating system. It literally sounds like someone punching sheetrock.

Fortunately not every water sound signals a problem sometimes the water is safely inside pipes. I keep hearing a thud from one corner of my house from the inside. The noise could be coming from your roof during the hottest days of the summer when the rays of the sun beat down on the shingles. If it s coming from the radiators you may have condensed steam.

It is very loud on the first floor coming from different places on the ceiling not so loud on the second floor. It could be that the forces being applied aren t equal on the roof beams supporting the roof in that part of your house so your roof will make noises because the forces aren t being distributed. Its not all in one area. Awakening in the middle of a cold night by repeated loud banging from your home s roof can be quite alarming giving rise to visions of falling tree limbs or intruders on the roof.

It sounds as if something is hitting the outside of the house but looking around the outside does not reveal anything like loose siding that might be flapping in the wind or something. It happens commonly but i have not timed how often. Very loud mysterious thump in the ceiling above the first floor of 3 story house. Most of the noises seem to be coming from the top of the walls.
