Ledger Board Over Wood Siding

Start by making an outline on the siding where you want to position the ledger board.

This has cause a slight tilt to the ledger board and they said to cut the end of the joists at a matching angle. This may seem excessively tall but is needed in order for the water resistive barrier wrb and siding to overlap the top. Step 1 determine the size of the ledger board. Bore through the ledger and right through the rim joist and into the blocking.

To ensure proper strength a ledger board should be made out of the same size lumber that was used to make the deck joists usually 2 inch by 10 inch boards. Measure the exact width and length of the ledger board with a tape measure. The ledger board is a horizontal framing member usually two by 10 or two by 12 lumber that supports one side of a deck and attaches flat to the wall of a house after removing a section of siding. Using a spade bit bore at least two holes through the ledger board one above each other between each joist.

Set a water level on mark done for the ledger board then make another at a point longer than. Start by using plunge cuts across the top and bottom of the horizontal length of the ledger board followed by the shorter vertical cuts for the ends using a cold chisel. Nail undersill trim j channel will also work over the bottom cut using 11 gauge aluminum nails. Make a mark where the top of the deck should be the mark should be 1 3 inches below that.
